What is Rescue?

Rescue turns this...
When people are interested in adopting an Old English Sheepdog from us (or any rescue dog for that matter), they're sometimes not aware of the condition that some of these dogs are in when they come into a rescue organization. Many have coats that are matted to the skin so that nothing can save them from a complete shave-down (even in cold weather). Mats are seen full of fecal matter, urine and all sorts of insects.

Some have sores that have festered. Others are severely malnourished with protruding bones and ribcages. (Some from owner surrender are severly overweight and have reduced life-expectancy.) We've seen dogs with mats so horrible that the dogs are unable to close their eyes or one dog in particular where mats had gotten so out of hand, he couldn't close his mouth. Two dogs we recently acquired were thought to be 16 yrs old. They could hardly move and we expected the worst when the hair came off. Imagine the huge surprise when, clean and shaved down, both dogs are spirited and have gotten a new lease on life!

One thing that makes rescue worthwhile is that no matter what condition a dog comes to us in, they always have a lick, a nub wag or a sparkle in their eyes for their 'human'. Amazing isn't it that nothing can spoil a dog's spirit!

Animal rescue turns cast-offs into dogs, and turns dogs into loved ones!
