Sir Neville Rowe

Dec 23, 2003 (est) - Jan 26, 2017

Many dog owners talk about the 'special' dog. Neville captured hearts whereever he went. Old English Sheepdogs are typically a spectacle wherever they go, and our first dog Emma certainly drew lots of attention, but Neville touched people. Sometimes in ways we couldn't even ascertain. He was alternatively described as having 'soulful eyes' and a 'human heart.' Whether to treat his latest accidental injury (an unlucky fellow was Neville) or his ongoing struggles with arthritis, his life was riddled with trips to the veterinarian or therapist, and every care-giver fell in love with him immediately. Neville was gentle, and he understood when his people were working to make him feel better, and he always cooperated.

Neville was quick to greet houseguests with a toy and a joyful bark for attention. His tongue was comically large and didn't fit in his mouth and would stick out. It stood as a warning to those who got close enough that they were in for a thorough set of sheepie kisses.

He was a nursemaid to his nervous 'cousin' dog Luka, and a tender companion to the neighborhood children who loved to pet him. More than that, he was our best friend. We understood each other. When someone was sick on the couch, Neville would stay with you without fail.

His long struggles with mobility are now over, and he saved us from having to make the dreadful choice. Neville left us quickly only a handful of hours after falling ill. After he passed, the clouds parted and the sun shone, and we knew he was telling us that we are all going to be all right. Thank you, Neville, for being our dog and our friend.
