Splatt

August 21, 2009

After placing one of our own OES pups, Samantha, back in the early '90's with Julie and Kevin Tedder, it was too much of a temptation once we found out there were pups at the Tedder household. We simply had to go see them. Now, looking at OES puppies isn't for the faint of heart. They'll worm their way into your psyche without a second thought. One pup in particular stood out and when we left, we were carrying an extra passenger! Since we also had Thud at the time, it followed naturally that Splatt would be a great sidekick name hence the name.

While a lot of OES's are somewhat calm, Splatt was always hyperactive - that dog could move around and be in three places at once. Luck wasn't kind to him however when at the age of 6 months he suffered a fractured shoulder and had to wear a cast for quite a while. This developed into a slight limp that promoted the nickname 'Skippy.'

Splatt was a good and loyal fella. He was kind hearted, always curious and loved attention and riding in the car. He was also responsible for fathering a litter of pups (I know, our bad - didn't think a small dog and Splatt could mate and they proved us wrong!) and our Marley was the product of that litter. As the years passed, Splatt was the dog that we always expected to have to put to sleep and one by one, Mirror, Thud, Ragsworth, and Woo-dro went before. Splatt became somewhat of a legend and when I moved in late summer of 2009, he went with me to a new home. At the age of 16yrs, Splatt probably will never be surpassed as the grand patriarch of Muttley Manor. Unfortunately, in mid-August, Splatt's son Marley passed away, again leaving Splatt to beat the odds.

On Friday, August 21st, 2009, Splatt's body and spirit finally needed their rest.

While seemingly being overshadowed by some of our other dogs, Splatt was a great dog. I miss the old guy.

Rest easy Splatt.
