We found Morgan and his brother Mattie in December of 2000. My second sheepdog Max died on September 14, 1999 and I missed him greatly. I was not looking for another dog. My wife, found an ad about some OES puppies near where good friends of ours lived. My wife and I met our friends and off to see the puppies we went. When the day was over we had two sheepdogs and they got one and they named him Winston.
All three dogs were terrible shy and afraid of everyone, but soon started to show the great characteristics of the Breed. By the time the OES turned five they were sweet loyal and loving carefree dogs but were still shy and afraid of strangers for the most part.
Morgan and his brother Mattie were inseparable; until Morgan died they had only spent one night apart. Needless to say Mattie is grieving and sad. Fortunately our daughter rescued a black Lab named Oliver a couple years ago, He is a big help filling Mattie's void.
Morgan was to some extent sick a lot. He developed repeated ear infections and in March of this year started losing his hair and skin turned red and inflamed. After repeated treatment/medicine he was not improving. In August he was much worse, and diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. After repeated doses of prednisone and immune suppression drugs, Morgan was tried, weak and uncomfortable. His last day was spent in his crate and he looked so weak and tired, I knew it was time. Early on Sunday September 27th I took Morgan to my wonderful Veterinarian Clinic (Cobb Animal Clinic) Dr. Jill Clark was on duty and she compassionately and professionally took care of euthanizing Morgan while I rubbed his head. Special thanks to Dr Mark Whitley of Cobb Animal Clinic for taking such good care of all my sheepdogs over the years.
Morgan enriched our life immensely. When you looked at him you could not help but smile, and feel better. He was a happy dog that loved us and his brother very much. He was so thankful for long head rubs and for us to sit down beside him. I can only imagine how much fun he and Max are having in Heaven.
