Abercrombie
Emmett came to TOESR after being shuffled around a bit as a puppy. Originally left by the owner in the care of the friend whose schedule didn't support long-term puppy care, Emmett was handed off to a neighbor with Sheepdog experience who contacted us right away.
Immediately it was obvious that Emmett had been trained and had pretty good manners for such a young pup and probably wouldn't last long before being snatched up by an adoptive family.
Only that didn't happen quite as planned.
Emmett was diagnosed with a rather profound heart murmur which was evaluated by a canine cardiologist, and together with being so young, the board at TOESR agreed that Emmett should be fostered until he was a full-year-old before being neutered. In that time, he would have plenty of exposure on our website to find his forever home, but there were two other young dogs in our program that caught much more attention than Emmett.
Emmett's foster Dad couldn't understand the lack of interest in the dog he was having so much fun with everyday playing ball and taking for walks and car rides. We knew it was going to take a special family to commit to a dog with an underlying medical condition.
Enter the York family. Tom and Larissa had enjoyed the love from OES in their family before and currently had a rescued shepherd mix that needed a playmate. Right away they expressed their commitment to Emmett's ongoing annual cardiologist appointments. They made the drive with rescue dog Olaf in tow for a meet-and-greet with Emmett and everyone got along famously. Emmett and Olaf are now the best of friends living life to the fullest on the Outer Banks of NC. Many thanks to Tom, Larissa, and family for committing to Emmett, and congratulations Emmett on finding your fur-ever home!
