Cass - Adopted!
Goatee's story couldn't have started out sadder or more pathetic. We received a call from a wonderful, compassionate dog rescuer in Morganton, who had found little Goatee wandering down the middle of a highway in a pouring rain storm early one morning. Sally described her as 'dead man walking' and simply couldn't turn her back on the little dog. Not knowing Goatee's condition, Sally nor I expected Goatee to live, but surprisingly enough, she bounced back the following day. We met Goatee's rescuers the next evening and brought her to Muttley Manor. After visiting our vet, Goatee was a pitiful 39 lbs and had the worst case of hookworms that they'd seen. Otherwise she was a survivor and in decent shape.
At that point, Larry and Judy entered the picture, came to visit with Goatee, and determined they could give her a safe and loving home. Goatee's follow up shows that she's gaining weight, is quite tolerant of the family's cat population and is a really unique character. She's obviously had some training and appears to be very appreciative of now living the good life. Many, many thanks to Larry and Judy for their good hearts in taking in this little girl!
